Mark-vetted gear
The Penn Carnage III is a tournament-grade spinning rod built for offshore live-bait presentations. 24-ton carbon composite blank, Fuji K-frame guides, and a cork-insert Penn reel seat — dialed for the conditions Mark fishes on the Carolina coast and out of Miami.

Mark's Take
Why I fish this rod.
I've thrown a lot of spinning rods at sailfish and mahi — and most of them let you down when it counts. This rod is different. The blank is live-bait sensitive at the tip and has the backbone to turn a big fish in 300 feet of water. I run the 7' Medium-Heavy on every offshore trip now. Light enough to pitch a live pilchard, strong enough to fight whatever eats it.
