DELAYED — Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic: shotgun start pushed to Saturday, June 20

The 24th annual Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic (ECBC) did not put lines in the Gulf on its scheduled Thursday Day 1. Tournament organizers announced on the official ECBC Facebook page that “due to Gulf conditions,” the start of fishing has been pushed, and the event will now begin on Saturday, June 20, instead of Thursday, June 18. More than 80 registered boats remain docked at Sandestin awaiting the rescheduled shotgun start at the Destin East Pass Sea buoy.

Why the delay

The weather call lines up with the wider northern Gulf Coast picture. The National Weather Service forecast office for Mobile / Pensacola is tracking the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur across the region, with severe thunderstorms and flash-flooding potential. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for the coastal waters off the FL Panhandle, with south winds forecast at 20–30 kt — conditions incompatible with a safe shotgun start and a long offshore run to the canyons.

Schedule shift

The pre-tournament plan was a Thursday–Saturday window with weigh-ins at Baytowne Marina. With Saturday now the start, the field is compressed into the back of the original window. ECBC has not yet posted a revised number of fishing days; watch the tournament’s social channels for confirmation of whether the awards calendar at Baytowne Wharf shifts with the new schedule.

Fleet and stakes

Eighty-one boats are registered for the 24th running. The total cash and prize purse across all categories stands at $435,951. The host venue is Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, with weigh-ins at Baytowne Marina — the same Baytowne Wharf scene that has crowned recent Pensacola and Destin winners.

What’s next

Saturday morning brings a fresh weather read and, if conditions cooperate, the first run to the rigs and the offshore breaks. We’ll publish the Day-of recap once the leaderboard moves at ecbc.catchstat.com.
