FINAL RECAP — 2026 Edisto Invitational Billfish Tournament: Rascal's Closing-Day Surge Wins the Governor's Cup Finale
EDISTO BEACH, S.C. — The 2026 Edisto Invitational Billfish Tournament closed the South Carolina Governor’s Cup season the way a finale should: with a last-day charge that flipped the leaderboard. Rascal, the sportfisher owned by Foster McKissick and captained by Mark Rogers, saved its best day for last — releasing a blue marlin and four sailfish on Saturday for a 1,400-point closing surge that lifted the team to 2,200 points and the Outstanding Billfish Boat title at The Marina at Edisto Beach.
The victory gave Rascal its second Governor’s Cup event win of the summer, pairing the Edisto finale with the 58th Annual Georgetown Blue Marlin Tournament crown it claimed in June.
Rascal’s closing-day surge
Rascal sat off the pace through the first two fishing days before Saturday’s blitz changed everything. In the Governor’s Cup catch-and-release format — where a released blue marlin is worth 600 points and each sailfish 200 — the crew’s blue-and-four-sailfish day was worth 1,400 points on its own, enough to overtake the boats that had set the early tempo and steal the overall lead on the final afternoon. Rascal finished the three-day event on top with 2,200 points on the strength of one blue marlin and eight sailfish releases.
The chase pack
Behind the winner, two boats deadlocked at 2,000 points, with the tiebreaker separating them on the official board. Mister Pete — which had led the tournament from the opening bell behind a seven-sailfish first day (see our Day 1 recap) — closed the event with 10 sailfish releases to take second place. Sportin’ Life finished third on 2,000 points behind two blue marlin and four sailfish, a haul that also earned the crew the tournament’s Blue Marlin Release Points award.
Gamefish and angler awards
Away from the billfish board, the heaviest-gamefish categories went to Bad Becky (dolphin, 64.4 lb, angler Ricky Anderson), Hay Fever (wahoo, 46.8 lb) and Sea Tiger (tuna, 25.1 lb, angler George Dunlap). Kelly Kirkpatrick aboard Showtime! took Top Lady Angler honors with 1,200 points on a blue marlin and three sailfish, and Isla Wyatt of Sola Fide was named Top Youth Angler with five sailfish releases.
A season-long deadlock atop the Governor’s Cup
Edisto was the fifth and final leg of the 2026 Governor’s Cup, and while Rascal owned the finale, the season-long title came down to a photo finish between two of the circuit’s steadiest boats. In the unofficial final Top Boats standings, Star Fish and Claytime finished deadlocked at 7,075 series points apiece, with Star Fish holding the top line pending the series tiebreaker. Rascal — despite winning two of the five events — sits third at 5,875, followed by Game On (5,675) and Bull Pen (5,275). Series standings remain unofficial until certified by the Governor’s Cup Board of Directors, and the Outstanding Billfish Boat of the Year will be recognized at the series awards banquet.
The five-leg season crowned a different event winner at nearly every stop: Redemption opened the year at the Charleston Billfish Invitational, Game On took the HMY Lowcountry Cup, Rascal won Georgetown, Bull Pen claimed the Carolina Billfish Classic, and Rascal closed things out at Edisto. Across the circuit the Lowcountry fleet released hundreds of billfish, with a heavy sailfish bite carrying the catch numbers at every stop.
With Edisto in the books, the 2026 Governor’s Cup now turns to its awards banquet, where the Star Fish–Claytime tie will be settled and the season’s Outstanding Billfish Boat, Captain and Angler honors are handed out. For Rascal, though, the record already reads the way every team wants it to at season’s end: winners of the finale.
