EAST FALMOUTH, Mass. — South Florida Sails Angling Club opened the 2026 SFC Cape Cod Invitational with a statement, posting 850 points on Day 1 to seize a commanding lead in the Sport Fishing Championship’s Atlantic Division Stop 4 at MacDougall’s Marina.

Fishing the fabled billfish and bluefin grounds off Cape Cod — the home waters where Lights Out Boston set an SFC-record 47 releases in 2025 — the fleet turned in a spread-out opening scoreboard. North Carolina Flare and South Carolina Outcast each banked 200 points to share second, while East Coast Remix added 100. New Jersey Sea Birds and Lights Out Boston were held off the board on the opening day, and Rhode Island Breakers logged a SCRATCH.

Day 1 Leaderboard

  • 1. South Florida Sails — 850 points
  • T2. North Carolina Flare — 200 points
  • T2. South Carolina Outcast — 200 points
  • 4. East Coast Remix — 100 points
  • New Jersey Sea Birds — 0 points
  • Lights Out Boston — 0 points
  • Rhode Island Breakers — SCRATCH

Weather trims the schedule. Tournament officials announced that the National Weather Service issued a Small Craft Advisory for Sunday, July 19, in the coastal waters off Cape Cod. As a result, SFC cancelled the event’s final day “to prioritize the safety of our anglers and crews.” The 2026 Cape Cod Invitational champion will now be determined by the final standings at the end of Day 2 on Saturday, July 18 — turning tomorrow into a winner-take-all sprint.

That puts South Florida Sails in the driver’s seat, but with a full fishing day still ahead and points very much catchable in SFC’s release-scoring format, the Atlantic Division’s contenders have one more shot to run them down.

The result also feeds the season-long Atlantic Division race, where New Jersey Sea Birds (9,100), South Florida Sails (8,900) and Lights Out Boston (8,700) entered the week separated by fewer than 400 points. The top two clubs in each division advance to October’s Zane Grey Championship Playoffs.
