The 2026 SFC Carrier Cup, Presented by HUK, kicked off May 29 in Charleston with the USS Yorktown (CV-10) at Patriots Point as the broadcast set — the Sport Fishing Championship Atlantic Division's third stop of the year, an America 250 tie-in, and the league's first dedicated billfish event in South Carolina waters. Seven Atlantic clubs left the dock at 4:45 a.m. ET for the 50–60 mile run to the deep, with the competition window running 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and a $100,000 grand prize on the line for the three-day cumulative leader.

By lines-out, the New Jersey Sea Birds had pulled away with the only multi-marlin day of the fleet — Steve Melchiorre at 12:57 p.m. and Jay Brower at 2:02 p.m., both blue marlin releases for 450 points apiece — to provisionally lead at 900 points. East Coast Remix sit second at 525 on the back of a Brent Feder blue marlin at 11:15 a.m. plus an earlier Aimar Hernandez sailfish — the first fish on the board for the entire tournament at 8:50 a.m. Four clubs tied for third at 150 points round out a tight chase pack heading into Day 2.

How Day 1 played out

The bite was sailfish-heavy early. East Coast Remix's Aimar Hernandez got the tournament's first release at 8:50 a.m., and inside the next two hours Lights Out Boston (Ross Nasin) and North Carolina Flare (Thurman Humphreys) had matched it for a three-way tie at 75. East Coast Remix broke it open at 11:15 a.m. when Brent Feder put a blue marlin on the board. From there, it was the Sea Birds. Steve Melchiorre's 12:57 p.m. blue dropped New Jersey into the lead, and Jay Brower's 2:02 p.m. second blue ended the day's leadership question.

What to watch on Day 2

  • Can anyone match New Jersey's marlin clip? Two blue marlin in a single day is the pace that wins this tournament. Every blue is worth six sailfish.
  • The four-way tie at 150 is fragile. One marlin release from any of the tied clubs reshuffles the board.
  • Rhode Island Breakers on the board. The Breakers blanked Day 1 and need a clean Day 2 to enter the conversation.
